Animal Advocate Profile: Brooke Haggerty Executive Director at Faunalytics

Although farm sanctuaries primarily serve to rescue and shelter animals, many also engage in public outreach. Conducted in partnership with Farm Sanctuary, A Farm Sanctuary Tour’s Effects on Intentions and Diet Change revealed that going on a sanctuary tour can indeed positively influence people’s attitudes and dietary choices. The study demonstrated the power of a well-run sanctuary and the overall role that sanctuaries can play in vegan advocacy. I’d also encourage advocates to reach out and support one another across organizations. For example, by sharing grant opportunities, various templates, and/or internal policies. I have a great group of fellow executive directors whom I reach out to with operations and fundraising questions, and it has saved me so much time.

Brooke brings over 13 years of nonprofit experience to HandsOn San Diego, with a passion for animal welfare, social justice, and giving back to her community. She is the executive director for Faunalytics, a nonprofit that provides research and resources to help animal protection organizations maximize their effectiveness to reduce animal suffering. While we celebrate the important work we’ve accomplished this year, we’ve already begun laying the groundwork for 2021 and we can’t wait for the year ahead. For starters our team transformed our SMART goals into SMARTIE goals, reviewed and updated our policies, and began making a stronger effort to circulate research that addresses fundamental inequalities within animal protection. We’ve increased our coverage of underrepresented advocates, highlighting studies about the experiences of vegans of color, cultural barriers to veganism, and the experiences of vegan women over 50.

Faunalytics’ Plans & Priorities For 2024

In this follow up study, we are testing several possible interventions to try and identify the most successful avenues for advocates to reduce chicken and fish suffering. Sharing DataFaunalytics’ latest original studies were covered online by several fellow advocates, including The Cranky Vegan and Jane Velez-Mitchell of UnchainedTV, bringing our research to new audiences. Amplifying Advocate VoicesFollowing the release of our Animal and Social Justice Fundamental, we brooke haggerty held a Facebook Live session to highlight the resource, as well as the work being done by some amazing organizations around the world. We were joined by representatives from Afro-Vegan Society, Alianima, Animal Advocacy Africa, and Food Empowerment Project, who shared an overview of their work, and how people can help support their missions. This is hard work, and every day I’m in awe of my colleagues in the movement and everyone out there advocating for animals.

What initially inspired you to dedicate your time to animal advocacy? What keeps you motivated to continue?

Now, whether it’s through our research, or via honest, raw conversations uplifting other leaders, I feel so grateful to be in this unique position in the movement. We’re all working toward the same end goal, and anything I can do to make others‘ work easier, I will. In 2020 alone our original research has been viewed over 25,000 times, and our collective https://www.bookstime.com/ resources have received over 500,000 total pageviews. Currently, our research newsletter has an open rate 16.8% higher than industry average. Brooke Ann Haggerty, creator of Yoga Earth Is®, is a veteran Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. For over twenty-five years her concentration includes alignment and personal growth.

In fact, research tells us that simply offering more veg meals increases vegetarian meal consumption and decreases meat consumption. Faunalytics also provides direct support work, where we help advocates apply research to their own campaigns and strategies. Delivered either one-on-one or via small group settings, our team provides guidance on finding data, conducting surveys, and more, helping advocates be as effective as possible. Animals Used for Food

In addition to producing numerous short films on various animal issues, karol is the director of Maximum Tolerated Dose, a feature-length documentary about the psychological toll of vivisection on both animals and humans. He completed a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and an MA in Communications and Culture at York University, writing theses on nationalism and the Atlantic seal hunt, and Canadian rodeo culture, respectively. When he’s not working for Faunalytics, karol is the Board President of an arts-focused student and community centre in his home town.
